If you are considering a driving holiday in Ireland you should take a look at the Connemara Loop. Connemara is in County Galway on the West Coast and the Loop consists of 80 KM of road and thousands of acres of breathtaking scenery. There are so many gorgeous little villages and wonderful landscapes, each sight as beautiful as the next. Below I’ve highlighted only a few to give you a taster. When planning your holiday why not check out our many B&Bs in Galway that you can use as a base while traveling around. You will be sure to get a warm welcome and a tasty breakfast in any of our B&B’s.

Highlights of the Connemara Loop

Leenane is a little village nestled between the Mwelrea, Devil’s Mother and Maamturk Mountains and looks into Killary Harbour – Ireland only Fjord. And if you’ve seen a movie called “The Field” you’ll recognize Gaynors Pub in the Village.

Next is Killary it’s on the southern shore of the Fjord and has spectacular views looking across and up to the Mayo Mountains.

Tullycross is a beautiful village  with its traditional thatched cottages.  If you fancy some evening entertainment this little village comes alive in the evening where the local bar has music sessions. Heading further west is Lettergesh and Glassilaun where you will be spoilt for choice with the number of beaches and bays to explore.

Derryinver is on the Renvyle Peninsula, it’s a beautiful place, peaceful and tranquil and contains an archaeological site of a 6 pillar stone alignment which would have been built to line up with the Winter Solstice. It is here you will find Ballinakill Harbour, one of the most beautiful, clean, natural and well-protected harbours in the world. It’s the home of a large variety of birds, seals, porpoises and dolphins!  Last but definitely not least is Kylemore with the breathtakingly beautiful Kylemore Abbey.
